Dear Zindagi – Movie Review

Dear Zindagi

Director: Gauri Shinde
Cast: Alia Bhatt, Shah Rukh Khan, Kunal Kapoor, Ali Zafar, Angad Bedi, Aditya Roy Kapur, Yashwasini Dayama and Ira Dubey

Dear Zindagi is the story of Kaira (Alia Bhatt) who is a budding cinematographer who shoots small ads and projects but wants to shoot a movie. Dr Jehangir Khan (Shahrukh Khan) is a psychatrist and an unconventional thinker who helps her gain a new perspective in life. She discovers that happiness is finding comfort in the little things and imperfections of life.

Kiara is offered a big break by a producer for a feature film and she isn’t sure if it is her looks or her talent. This co-producer Raghavendra (Kunal Kapoor) is the one whom Kiara is cheating on with her current love, Sid (Angad Bedi). She is dealing with a heartbreak as her guy ditched her for another girl and the homeless girl has to return home. Kiara’s love life is in a mess and her landlord asks her to vacate her Mumbai Apartment as she is a single woman. Kiara’s parents are based in Goa. Now she has to move back to her home but she shares a rather tense relationship with her parents so this thought really makes her sad.

Unable to sleep in Goa, she eavesdrops on a address by Dr. Jehangir Khan at a mental health awareness gathering. Finally she reaches his home for therapy.Dr.Jehangir knows how to break the shackles of life thus embracing life. (One take at a time).

Jug aka Dr.Jehangir teaches her how to handle her life, feelings, relationships, being happy with ourselves and much more. Kiara’s fears and weaknesses are a bit unnatural though shown well in the movie. Jug is a charm as he handles Kaira with patience. Jug’s sessions like bicycle or kabaddi with waves on the beach are really good.

The movie is slow and gets boring at times but really a light hearted film. Music of the movie is light and breezy and goes very well with the movie. The loveable song is “Love You Zindagi”.

Watch the movie for the performances and the lovely lessons by Shahrukh.
