Bala Movie Review

Cast: Ayushmann Khurrana, Yami Gautam, Bhumi Pednekar

Director: Amar Kaushik

Balmukund Shukla aka Bala (Ayushmann Khurrana) who loves his hair a lot since he was a kid gets a shock when he starts losing his hair as he grows up. His hair hardly stays on his head and he is almost bald. He tries to cover his head but it does not help. He tries several solutions to grow back his hair but all in vain. Latika (Bhumi Pedenkar) is his good friend but she is not fair, so he leaves her for the fair beauty. Bala’s dad gifts him a wig which he uses every day.

Bala soon meets a pretty girl Pari (Yami Gautam) who is also attracted to him. Pari is a Tick-tok star of a fairness brand that Bala markets. Will Pari come to know about Bala’s reality? What role will Latika play in Bala’s life forms the climax of the movie.

The movie conveys a message to accept your weakness and love yourself the way you are. Ayushmann Khurana’s acting is the best performance till date. He can even imitate Shah Rukh Khan. His adorable charm and expressions definitely leave a mark. Bhumi Pednekar and Yami Gautam – both have done their parts very well. Yami is very convincing and gives an impactful performance. Bhumi, on other hand, highlights the insecure part of human nature and expresses the feeling how girls who are not fair are treated in the society. Only one song in the forefront – Pyaar Toh Tha – which is also played in instrumental tone fits very well in the movie.

Romance, comedy, sad moments – everything except action. Overall, a complete entertainer. A movie worth a watch!!
