Bollywood often talks about topics about which there is an untold taboo in society. Bollywood stars make movies with such a message and full passion without fear. Condoms and sex education are topics people get goosebumps just by repeatedly hearing. The movie Chhatriwali has been released on the OTT platform ZEE5. Let’s see how much this Chhatriwali movie will entertain.
Cast: Rakul Preet Singh, Sumeet Vyas, Rajesh Tailang, Satish Kaushik, Rakesh Bedi, Dolly Ahluwalia
Director: Tejas Vijay Deoskar
Chhatriwali Movie Story
The story takes place in Karnal city of Haryana. In those times where before buying condoms from the chemist, they ask for all kinds of products at the counter. In those times where before teaching the reproduction chapter of biology, the teacher sends boys and girls to different sections. The story of ‘Chhatriwali’ is young; this shows the current era only. The story is from today; only our issues are the same.
Sanya Dhingra completed her chemistry studies but could not find a job. A chemistry graduate is now taking home tuition. It all begins when Sanya starts working in a condom company. She is ashamed to work, but the money is good, so there is no problem. She checks the quality of condoms. She is a very gentle and calm girl. From here, she starts to understand that due to the lack of awareness in society about sex, what kind of challenges and problems girls have to face.
Sanya begins at home and persuades her husband to wear a condom during intercourse. After spreading awareness about sex education at home, Sanya breaks her hesitation and tells her relatives and neighbors about the benefits of condoms. In the beginning, Sanya has to face many taunts and conservative beliefs. But later, she succeeds in spreading her message to the people.
Writing and Direction
One good thing about this movie is that it does not paint anyone in the color of good or bad. Everyone is just people, some are doing right, and some are wrong. And wrongdoers are not always wrong people. In the name of proper education, they are only taught their mistake. The movie touches on all these aspects. The movie wants men to understand the importance of safe sex.
The story is engaging enough and doesn’t derail much. It is not wrong to say that ‘Chhatriwali’ has a lot to teach about essential issues. The only problem is that this thing becomes its negative point. The moviemakers are trying to cover as much in a running time of one hour and 50 minutes; in such a situation, everything seems to go fast. Overall, the way the story moves cannot adequately cover it with the direction.
There is a risk in making a movie on this subject that if the movie deviates even a little from the issue, then the movie is useless and obscene. But knowing this risk, choosing a taboo subject and making a movie on it can be very risky. Thankfully, Rakul Preet Singh’s ‘Chhatriwali,’ directed by Tejas Vijay Deoskar, runs on a crisp script with little boredom. The Chhatriwali movie release date is 20 January 2023.
Chhatriwali Movie Cast and Acting
The movie rests entirely on the shoulders of Rakul Preet Singh. She has been working in Hindi movies for the last several years. But this movie is the one in which she has the lead role. What kind of mental and social pains does a person go through while changing the thinking of a conservative society? Rakul has lived it very well as Sanya in the movie.
As Sanya, Rakul gets into the character of this educated, confident girl with such ease. There is nothing extraordinary in her nature, and that is the beauty of how Rakul adds so much to this simple character. Sumeet Vyas’s personality is also charming and appealing. Rajesh Tailang is strict and shows the face of society to people well with his expressions.
At the level of acting, good work was done here. Be it Rakul, Sumit Vyas, or Rajesh Tailang, everyone stays within the confines of their character. But there is no such scene in his part that settles in your mind. ‘Chhatriwali’ is a sensible movie. To an extent, it also keeps you invested in its story. But cramming everything in a hurry makes the movie heavy.
Music and Cinematography
The cinematography by Siddharth Vasani is superb. His intimate cinematography helps strengthen the movie on OTT. The movie has excellent fast-paced scenes and excellent cinematography. The family scenes are one of the most memorable moments in the movie. Shruti Bora’s editing is also very smooth.
The background music by Lochan Kanvinde and Siddhesh Sardesai connects the audience to the movie. There are many scenes accompanied by fast-paced background music that helps capture the movie’s excitement and energy. Mangesh Dhakde and Rohan’s music drive the plot forward. The movie has many upbeat and exciting songs, giving it a sense of engagement.
Chhatriwali is a very important movie of today’s era. This movie talks about such a topic that it is necessary to talk about. But due to a strange hesitation, no one wants to talk about it. This is such a movie that the government should make it mandatory to show it in every school in the country. The performance of the cast in the movie is intense. Acting by the lead cast Rakul Preet Singh is excellent, and the story is also enjoyable.
Script-wise, the movie is fast. It is an interesting comedy-drama movie, but it could be better. There are a few flaws here and there, but with all the humor and light-hearted moments, they can be somewhat overlooked. The excitement is reduced because we already know the plot, and it turns out to be true. It would have been better if the movie script had a twist. Excellent performances by the cast make the movie worth watching. Chhatriwali can only be enjoyed when expectations are low. It is a one-time watch!
